Modeling Industry needs new heights.

I got kicked out of my modeling agency because at 5'2 I was considered too short. Here is the full story.

At the age of 12, I entered in the acting industry because I loved the idea of portraying different characters. Not long after, I found an interest in fashion because each role I played required different clothing. I wanted to explore this fashion path so I decided to look for modeling agencies. Fortunately, I found an agency that wanted to represent me. Reminder, I was 12 so I put in the kids modeling department.

The agency I was under was great and treated all of their clients, including me, with care. I got the chance to do some small projects but nothing big. Being in the modeling agency exposed me to new knowledge about what to wear and how to carry yourself in public. I was delighted to learn about this industry. But once I turned 17 everything changed.

At age 18, the modeling agency sent me a letter in the mail. Then and there, they told be I was being released from the agency. I was in complete shock and confusion. I called my modeling agency asking for more details. What they told me disappointed me for 2 years. They told me I was kicked out of the modeling agency because they realized I would not grow to be the ideal 6 feet tall. In their eyes, I was too short for the men's department and too old for the kids department.

This news made me sad and question myself. For 2 years, my self esteem was crushed and I kept this story a secret fearing people to make fun of me. But I do not blame the modeling agency I was under, I understand they have to keep the demands of the modeling industry. Thus, now I am stepping out of silence to tell my story in hopes of changing the modeling industry. Women now have plus-size models. It is time for short men to be represented because not all men are 6 feet tall. Men come in all sizes and heights, the industry needs to reflect that.
